The School Counsellor

Every school has access to a school counsellor. The counsellor for Albury Public
School is Mrs Sandra Reilly. She is at the school on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

What is a school counsellor?

They are helping people. They are teachers who have had special training.
They are often registered psychologists.
Some of the things a counsellor might do:

  1. Talk with students teachers or parents
Talking is always a good thing to do.

                          2. Help students to learn about feelings

e.g. What to do if you feel sad.
                         Anger management

Bouncing Back when things don’t work out. “Resilience”

3.
Help stamp out bullying

4. Work together with teachers to solve problems.

5. Counsellors can also help teachers and parents understand some learning problems.

6. They have more expert information about children with special needs.

7. They know about accessing help from other places.

If you would like to see the school counsellor, just call the front office and make an
appointment.
Teachers will always ask parent permission for a child to see the counsellor. If the teacher
suggests that the counsellor should see a child it means that someone is caring about a student
and is asking for more help.
