All students with language disabilities have
the right to an education which facilitates optimal learning.
This may require special support intervention.
The Support Teacher Learning
Assistance-Language (STLA-L) provides a program which addresses the
individual needs of K-2 students.
To foster the development of students’ language skills.
To enable the students to operate confidently and competently in future schooling and in society.
OBJECTIVES
* To identify students with specific and severe language difficulties which may be addressed by
STLA-L caseload.
* To place students with STLA-L who meet the criteria as set down by the Department of Education and Training.
* To design and implement, in
consultation with speech pathologist and classroom teacher, individual
programs
which support
language development.
* To monitor and evaluate the
progress of students involved in the STLA-L caseload, including review
meetings
each semester
or as requested by stakeholders.
OUTCOMES
As a result of STLA-L intervention it is anticipated that each student should be able to:
* Demonstrate improved language and language skills.
* Use language skills competently and confidently in a range of settings.
SELECTION CRITERIA
1.
Are enrolled in K-2 in a school within 50kms radius of Albury Public
School.
2. Students who are above 2 standard deviations from the mean on a
cognitive measure
(i.e. of average intelligence).
3. Demonstrate a severe receptive and expressive language disability/disorder as assessed by
speech pathologist as per current NSW Department of Education and Training criteria.
