School aged children should always travel in the rear of
your vehicle and be in a seat belt.
Children should always get in and out of the car
using
the rear kerb side door.
Always drop your children on the school side of the
road.
Meet your children on the school side of the road and
preferably in the supervised pick up area .
This is particularly important in wet weather.
Never call to your children from across the road. Teach
them to wait for you to come to them.
Talk about what they should if you are not there on time.
Children under 10 years should always be supervised
around traffic. Children under 8 years old should have their
hand held in a traffic environment.
Obey all the parking signs around your child's school.
These signs are there to save lives.

SAFETY AROUND SCHOOL
BUSES There is a 40km/h speed
limit for traffic passing a school bus that is picking up or
setting down school children.
This speed limit is for all traffic travelling in the same
direction as the bus, whether the bus is stationary or
moving.
The 40km/h speed limit must be obeyed when the rear
'wig-wag' lights on the bus flash.
Flashing headlights on these buses also alert oncoming
motorists that children are close by.
The minimum penalty for failing to observe the 40km/h speed
limit for traffic passing a school bus when the 'wig-wag'
lights are flashing is a $75 fine and the loss of 3 demerit
points
