In 1824 Hamilton Hume forded the Murray River at the place where Albury now stands. Albury was named after the village of Albury, in Surrey, England.
The cities, Albury-Wodonga combined, have a population of approximately 90 000. Albury {NSW} and Wodonga {Victoria} are Border Cities {7km apart} on the Murray River.  The area produces dairy products, honey, fat stock, poultry, forest products, wool and wheat.
Albury was inhabited by the Wiradjuri Aborigines. Mungabareena is a popular river reserve named after the Aboriginal word meaning "meeting place". It is enjoyed as a great picnic and fishing area
