English

Literacy is the ability to read and use written information and to write appropriately in a range of contexts.
Literacy involves the integration of speaking, listening and critical thinking with reading and writing.
[DEET ‘Australia’s Language and Listening Policy’ 1991:9]

Student’s develop knowledge, skills and understandings about English language and literature.
English is organized into three broad strands:

  • Talking and Listening
  • Reading
  • Writing

Learning experiences are sequenced into four stages from Kindergarten (Early Stage 1) to Year 6 (Stage 3).

The outcomes describe the knowledge, skills, understandings and strategies that students demonstrate
when learning to talk, listen, read and write. They also specify the knowledge and understandings students
develop when learning about talking, listening, reading and writing.
