EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS

                           Educational Programs

The New South Wales primary curriculum is divided into six key learning areas –

  • English - Reading, Writing, Talking, Listening
  • Mathematics - Number, Space, Measurement, Thinking Mathematically
  • Science and Technology - Design and Making, Investigating and Technology including Computers
  • Human Society in the Environment - including Social Studies and Languages other than English (LOTE)
  • Creative Arts - Visual Arts, Craft, Music, Drama
  • Personal Development, Health and Physical Education

Students progress through four stages in their primary school educational experience, from Early Stage 1 (Kindergarten)
to Stage 3 (Years 5 and 6).

Each key learning area is defined by a Foundation Statement which summarises the expected outcomes in each stage.
English and Mathematics are considered to be the most important key learning areas and are allocated most time in
classroom organisation.

Teaching activities in the classroom often integrate elements from a number of different key learning areas.

The Board of Studies is responsible for developing and endorsing all curriculum documents.
Other perspectives to be covered include:

    Multicultural Education

    Aboriginal Education

    Gender Equity

    Environmental Education

These perspectives are built into educational programs.

Additional activities other than those prescribed in the mandatory documents eg choir, recorder and musical ensemble
are organised on an interest basis if there is a teacher available.
